Also, as a natural product they can take in moisture, especially if its been raining and in high humidity. Therefore they may be hard to keep lit on occasions.
Dry the smudge out by either putting near a sunny window, on the dashboard of the car, or on a low heat in the oven. Then store in a sealed container when not in use. Some varieties don't smoke as much as the others, but if blown on and the centre well lit they should get some smoke up easily.
